Welcome to Willow Bud Designs, where I create unique accessories, dolls and magical art, inspired by the diversity of the world. I believe in continual growth, exploration, and experience to create my designs.
BSc, PHEc, Creator
I was born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, and raised in the remote Yukon Territory. Growing up in a secluded area surrounded by mountains, canyons, and wildlife, we lived a simple life without modern conveniences like power, or running water, relying on nature for most of our needs.
At 16 I left the trapline with my mother. My next adventure took me on Rotary Student Exchange to Finland for a year. This was an integral part of my learning and growth and helped me come out of my shell. Upon returning to Canada I finished high school at the local college.
With an interest in costume design, I moved to Lethbridge to pursue Drama Studies at the University of Lethbridge, AB. After one year I felt out of place, so I transferred into Clothing and Textiles studies at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, AB. Here I flourished and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology majoring in Clothing and Textiles. This was a study in humans and our nearest environment, apparel. My internship earned my professional designation a year later. This awakened a deeper love of textiles and their history and uses.
Today I enjoy creating with a verity of textiles, new, vintage or recycled. My curiosity for knowledge, beauty, texture, quality and uniqueness, are my main influences in my creations. Nature, animals and even people, influence my work. These explorations help in my experiments in colour, texture and pattern. Using my hands to create something beautiful brings me joy.
I will continue to strive to present my work with pride and integrity.
